Award Winners
2025 Teacher of the Year Award

Elizabeth Wold is an exceptional nominee for this award due to her unwavering dedication to supporting talented and gifted students at Maquoketa Middle School since 1992. As the school’s TAG teacher, Beth has consistently provided opportunities for students to explore learning beyond the traditional classroom setting through independent and group projects tailored to their unique abilities and interests. My professional relationship with Beth has revealed her passion for nurturing student potential and fostering a growth mindset. As one colleague shared, “In Beth’s classrooms, students are encouraged to take responsibility for their learning.” This philosophy is evident in how she challenges students to “think outside the box” and pursue meaningful service learning and passion projects, empowering them to become self-directed learners. Beth’s commitment goes beyond instruction; she actively enriches the gifted program by coordinating extracurricular competitions such as the Lego League, Battle of the Bridges, and Mock Trial. These experiences provide her students with real-world challenges that stimulate critical thinking, collaboration, and creativity—skills essential for gifted learners to thrive. Her enthusiasm for these programs inspires students to push their limits and discover new strengths. Furthermore, Beth’s contributions extend into the community. As an active member of the Maquoketa Optimist Club, she models service and leadership, values she instills in her students. Her remarkable 32-year career in the 132nd Army National Guard, retiring as a first sergeant, reflects her strong work ethic and dedication—qualities she brings to her educational role every day. In all, Elizabeth Wold is a pillar of support and inspiration within the gifted and talented community. Her innovative teaching, leadership in extracurricular programs, and commitment to student growth make her truly deserving of this award. Through her efforts, countless students have been encouraged to explore their talents, develop independence, and aim high—making a lasting impact on their academic journeys and beyond.

Outstanding Parent Award
Beginning in 2018, ITAG has presented the Outstanding Parent/Guardian award. Our profession cannot do its good and important work without the support, collaboration and advocacy provided to our students and schools by parents and guardians. Family members are our first talent scouts as their children enter school, and continue to be keen observers in the classrooms, important team members at the table when differentiation and acceleration are being discussed, and tireless in their enthusiastic volunteerism and support for all gifted learners and programs in their schools.
